The speciality of “Sociology” was set up 1n 1998 on the basis of the department of “Phylosophy and Sociology”. 

The department of Sociology was organized in November 13, 2000 according to the instruction of rector of Vladimir State University. The current head of the chair is L.M. Baranova. 

The department trains specialists in the sphere of theoretical and applied sociology. The students gain compulsory disciplines of Humanity and Social-Economy Sciences; philosophy, history, logic, ethics, economy theory, informatics and etc. 

The professional training of specialists is founded on the basis of such disciplines as the history of sociology, the methodology of social researches, social statistics, management and etc.
